Pension Credit take up events in North East Derbyshire and Bolsover Districts

In light of eligibility changes to the Winter Fuel Allowance, Citizens Advice North East Derbyshire are running a series of on the spot, free, Benefit Check events within the districts of Bolsover and North East Derbyshire. We are urging people over Pension Age to check if they are eligible to claim Pension Credits before the 21st December to qualify for the Allowance for this year.

Even if there is only a small entitlement to the benefit it gives passporting benefits to the Winter Fuel Allowance, as well as potential other benefits, so it is well worth getting a check.

The following events are all drop in so people can just turn up, although it would be helpful if they bring along details of income/savings.

Pension Credit Calculator

You may be aware of the changes to the eligibility for receipt of the Winter Fuel Payments to Pensioners as a means tested Benefit for those in receipt of Pension Credit.  DWP are undertaking a National campaign to raise awareness of Pension Credit and encourage 880,000 (potentially eligible) pensioners, to claim.   DWP have been asked by Government under a “call to arms” to do all we can to ensure all eligible pensioners claim Pension Credit (which may also entitle them to other support eg free TV licences for the over 75’s).

DWP has produced an external Partner/Stakeholder Toolkit (link provided) Pension Credit toolkit – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) that can be shared with as many organisations as possible and links to the Pension Credit calculator – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) .  It is recommended that customers use the Calculator first so that the PC Processing Centre are not working on ineligible claims & can more quickly process those who are eligible.
