Hunger-Free Summer Appeal Launched by local Foodbank – Every Pound Matched Thanks to Aviva and Crowdfunder

As pressure mounts and demand continues, a local foodbank serving Chesterfield is issuing an urgent call for support – and this summer, every pound donated will go twice as far.

In a year marked by food insecurity, climbing overheads, and worrying levels of need, the strain on the foodbank’s resources has reached new heights. Rents, core costs and prices of essential supplies have increased dramatically, while families and individuals in financial crisis continue to turn to the foodbank for support.

But amidst the pressure, there’s a ray of hope.

Chesterfield Foodbank, whose outlets can be found at Brimington, Hasland, the Town Centre, Whittington Moor and Loundsley Green, are relieved to announce that their Hunger-Free Summer Appeal has been chosen for support by the Aviva Community Fund, in partnership with Crowdfunder. That means every donation made to the appeal will be matched, pound for pound, up to £250 per donation until 14^th August.

This opportunity to maximise donations could not come soon enough. The summer months, when school meals disappear, bring an added layer of hardship for families already struggling to make ends meet.  And between key donation times such as Christmas, Easter and Harvest, summer is often a difficult season for foodbanks nationwide, as gaps start to appear on foodbank shelves while demand continues.

“This is a huge boost,” says Jacqueline DeVeaux, the charity’s fundraising manager. “We’re under incredible pressure. Costs have gone up across the board, and we are working hard to ensure onward, practical support is available for people who visit us to help reduce their reliance on the foodbank. The match-funding from Aviva and Crowdfunder gives us hope and gives our donors the power to make double the difference.”

Grateful for this backing, the foodbank has emphasised that support from the local community plays a huge role too. For the duration of the appeal, every £10 donated via Crowdfunder becomes £20. Every £50 becomes £100. And it all goes towards making sure no one in the local area has to go hungry this summer, and beyond.
