Jane and Karen, the Tesco Extra Community Champions and Andy from the Fruit and Veg Department joined us at the foodbank warehouse on the 26th April and soon got stuck in helping us to transfer food items into good quality used cardboard boxes supplied by the Fruit and Vegetable Department. We use deep boxes for cereals, biscuits and pasta and shallow boxes for all our tins cartons and packs.
Jane and Karen then came to a foodbank centre session at the Compass on the 1st May and were soon making refreshments for our clients. Later they took a turn at assembling emergency food packs in the Compass store.
Tesco let us to collect food in drop bins at the Extra and Metro stores and they provide top up funding based on the amount of food placed in the bins. They have now agreed that we can do a food collection at Tesco Extra on 13th and 14th July with a foodbank information point and collection stations at the escalators.
