Lockdown – One Year On

23rd March 2021

Today marks a year since the first lockdown and what a year it has been. Our thoughts go out to everyone who has lost a family member or friend in the pandemic.

This last year has been hard for lots of people and has sadly pushed even more people into food poverty. This has meant that the need for food banks has massively increased with The Trussell Trust reporting a 47% increase in food parcels distributed during the first six months of the pandemic, compared to the same period the previous year. Across the network, 1.2 million emergency food parcels were distributed to the most vulnerable in society with 38%, unfortunately going to children.

Please see some of our Chesterfield Foodbank statistics for the last year below.

  • Number of adults provided with food: 3956
  • Number of children provided with food: 1504
  • Total number of people provided with food: 5460
  • Equivalent meals provided: 49,140
  • Kgs of food donated: 73,217

We have only been able to help this many people because of the fantastic support we have received from our wonderful donors. Thank you so much to all of the individuals, churches, schools, businesses and supermarkets that have donated food, money and time to us. We are really proud of our fantastic Chesterfield community!

We also want to recognise and give a massive thank you to all of the volunteers who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic, putting themselves on the front line to help people who are in crisis in the local community. You really are amazing!!

We hope that everyone is doing ok! We are looking forward to brighter days and being able to invite you in for a cuppa.
