Covid 19 Update 05.06.2020

5th June 2020

A lot has changed since last month’s update. We continue to be amazed at the generosity of the Chesterfield area. We have received food donations and financial contributions from many local people and organisations. Thank you to you all.

We haven’t yet seen the large increases in demand seen in the big cities but we are looking at a future with a potential for more clients and we trying to ensure we have capacity for this.

In the meantime though we have supported a number of new organisations that have sprung up in recent months. We have recently finished supporting The Chesterfield Food Hut – they have been helping many people during the crisis. We continue to provide fresh food when we have it to Gussie’s Kitchen who are delivering food to local people experiencing tough times – the picture above is our egg delivery to Gussie’s last week. We are now helping the Chesterfield Food Hub as it launches its service in to vulnerable people in Staveley, Barrow Hill and Inkersall.

We continue to operate our centres in central Chesterfield, Brimington and Loundsley Green. We have also opened a new centre in New Whittington. This is located at St Barnabas Church, Thursday’s 12-2pm and is working really well.

Since the update at the end of April, we have also steadily increased our deliveries helping us to reach areas where people were very much isolated. This has worked well, serving those in financial difficulty who are also isolating.

Going forward we are taking government advice and looking at when we can invite clients back into our centres for tea and biscuits and a supportive chat. We believe that this side of what we do is important to our clients in giving emotional support and signposting to other organisations that can also help them. We will likely introduce this gradually, centre by centre to ensure that we are all safe.

As ever, if you need our help please visit our Get Help pages here where you can either contact us directly for urgent help or register for a food delivery.
